What you see on your terminal screen is not what I see on my screen. We can both be looking at your home page at the same time on different computers and we will to see different things. The only way we can get a good home page which is pleasing to you is if we work together.
Why?
Each computer displays what it "sees" depending on its configuration. What it displays is based on several factors:
- The type of graphics card in the computer
- The quality of the terminal
- The browser used (Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, AOL, Opera, etc.)
- The version number of the browser
- The color setting
- The default font size
All these work together to give a great picture or an awful picture. When I finish the web site, I see a great picture on my computer. But if you look at it and you see an awful picture on your computer, then there is a difference between our computers and we have to work together to fix the problem.
How do we fix it?
The fact is, you are my eyes to your world. What you see is not what I see. So we must work together to create a pleasing image that is attractive for most people.
I have a new computer with a great graphics card, a great operating system, and the newest popular browsers. But I can't expect everybody else to have the same thing I have. Therefore, I must program down to meet most people's common needs.
But I cannot help what graphics card others may have, and various other factors.
